4. Laboratory
The Health Services Academy at present does not have its own laboratory facilities. If required, the
laboratories of the Public Health Division of the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad may provide
full laboratory facilities, with prior approval of the Directors of NIH and HSA, to students completing their
MSPH programme.
5. Field Demonstration Area (FDA)
The Health Services Academy has started establishing a Field Demonstration Area (FDA) where HSA can
practice and test what is taught in classroom. Besides student training and staff research this will serve as
a model of improved health services delivery with in the given resources.
The aim of FDA is to improve health status of the population in the area of operation. FDA will serve
mainly two purposes:
1.
FDA will serve, as an area where parts of the training are applied in practice and training
programmes are strengthened in line with the health needs of the population.
2.
Rational solutions will be provided for improvement of health and health care delivery in Pakistan.
Apart from taking students to the field for training purposes, FDA has a strong component of applied
research. FDA shall serve as a site for longitudinal community-based applied research. In FDA, a model of
equitable, efficient and effective health care delivery system shall be developed and findings derived from
applied research shall be used directly for the improvement of health services and for policy-making. At
present the activities of FDA are suspended.
6. Student Facilities
6.1 Lockers
Student lockers are placed in the students common room. Contact Mr. Zia-Ullah-Butt (room B107, Ext
110) if you need a locker. Lockers are issued on payment of Rs. 100/- only as charges for the locker key.
6.2 Cafeteria
The interim cafeteria is located on the second floor of the Academy (B202). The final one with a terrace
café is under construction and is supposed to be ready by June 2007. Mr. Abid is in charge of the
cafeteria. The students can get morning and afternoon tea in the cafeteria on monthly payment (price to
be determined) to Mr. Abid, or prepare their own. At present, no facilities are available for provision of
