Background

Dr. Saima Hamid is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Health Services Academy (HSA). She started working at the Academy as a Research Officer in 1998. In 2000 she was appointed as the Instructor through Public Service Commission. She completed her MSPH from HSA in 2001. Dr Hamid completed her PhD from Karolinska Institute in 2010. She is currently heading the MNCH Department and coordinating the Centre of Excellence in MNCH.

Dr Hamid has been involved in research projects of estimated total funding of GBP 120,000 in various capacities including Principle, Co-principle Investigator and Technical Advisor. The detail is as under:

  • Young Women’s Reproductive Health – studies in slum setting of Pakistan funded by GIZ (completed 2010).
  • Technical Advisor:  Communication Skills of Community Midwives funded by RAF, Pakistan, Round-2 Small Grant (ongoing).
  • Information uptake and processing by girls and young women in Pakistan funded by RAF, Pakistan, Round-4 Small Grant (ongoing).
  • Job satisfaction amongst nurses: comparison of nurses working in private and public sector hospitals funded by GIZ (completed 2005)

  • More than 12 years teaching experience at post graduate level.

  • Course leader/Facilitator for Master’s Global Health at Karolinska Institute September 2011.
  • Associate Research Specialist with the University of Wisconsin- Madison, Department of Anatomy from 13 March 1992 to 31 December 1994.
  • Demonstrator for the Neuro-anatomy course, first year medical students at the University of Wisconsin - Madison Medical School 1992-1993.
