Introduction:
The skills in using the computers in public health schools are of prime necessity. Not only the applications
and skills are needed for the word processing for proposal writing, for creating a questionnaire/proforma,
for using statistical analysis and report writing. Currently, the available computer softwares are user
friendly and can be easily operated by the professionals. Public Health requires expertise from its
professionals to not only utilize the offered softwares but also to effectively use them in order to produce
reports and publications using the statistically sound applications independently. The successful use of the
Internet can make the communications easy and efficient. The link to the outer world beaming with
knowledge becomes very helpful, especially for a public health scientist.
Learning Goal:
The learning goal of the course is to provide the public health professionals with skills to operate the
computers and utilize the softwares with speed and efficiency to improve in their communications with
their colleagues and other scientists around the world.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1.
Apply word processing in Microsoft Word for writing their works and proposals.
2.
Use Microsoft Powerpoint to make presentations.
3.
Punch the data using statistical softwares, e.g., EXCEL, EPI INFO, SPSS, STATA.
4.
Draw results using these statistical softwares by running different relevant options in analysis.
5.
Construct graphical presentation of their data by using Graphics softwares.
6.
Write a report using the options in WORD for a scientific work or presentations.

Data entry procedures
Data processing procedures
