The Postgraduate Diploma Medical Entomology and Disease Vector Control (MEDVC) offered by the Quaid-i-Azam University , Islamabad is a one year course programme. The course is administered by the Health Services Academy (HSA) of the Ministry of Health (MoH) with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and USAID. This newly started Postgraduate Diploma Programme is another step forward in the efforts of HSA to strengthen public health expertise in this region
2. Goal
The goal of this training program is to fill the gap of trained manpower in the area of MEDVC. Graduates from this course will initially go into operational disease vector control programmes in Pakistan at each District level. The critical mass of experts produced will also fill the gap of non- existing indigenous applied research in Pakistan.
3. Objective of Diploma Program
Upon completion, the graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Entomology and Disease Vector Control should be able to:
Identify major vector-borne diseases and the vector species/pests responsible for transmission.
Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate vector control programmes based on integrated vector and disease management approaches in accordance with the prevailing epidemiological, social and economic conditions.
Skills to conduct entomological surveillance and operational research.
Knowledge on the principles of epidemiological investigations of vector-borne diseases.
Skills in disease control programme management.
Skills to develop vector control strategies based on the principles of integrated vector and disease management.
Skills to facilitate and train others, and effectively document and disseminate information on entomology and vector control.
