Background

Dr. Ramesh Kumar is a Public Health, primary health care specialist at the Health System & Policy Department, HSA. He started his career in Community Medicine at Muhammad Medical College Mirpurkhas. In 2006, he joined National Hepatitis Control Program (NHCP), Ministry of Health. Dr. Kumar was involved in research, monitoring & evaluation (M & E) and development of National Hepatitis Guidelines and National Feeding Practices Manual. In addition to the guidelines, he has contributed to a number of policy, strategic and health planning documents. He is on the board of editors of British Medical Journal (BMJ). Dr Kumar has authored research articles in international peer reviewed journals. He has presented many papers in national and international conferences. Dr Kumar has published a monograph in LAP, Lambert academic Publishing, Germany.

Dr Kumar has been the principal and co-investigator in various projects commissioned to him or to the HSA. The cumulative grant of these projects exceeds 14 million Pak Rupees.

The following are few of the recent (last 3 years) and ongoing activities:

  • PI: Hospital waste Management trainings in 10 districts of KPK. (4.7 Million). (completed 2011)
  • CO PI: Introduction of Hospital Waste Management in Punjab. (2.6 Millions). (completed 2009)
  • CO PI: Development of Country Coordination and Facilitation in HRH in Pakistan. (5 Million).

Honors And Awards

  • Minority Scholarship awarded for MPhil degree.
  • Middle Standard Scholarship award in 1991.
  • Quiad-e-Azam Scholarship awarded for Medical Graduation.

  • Affiliated with various academic institutions in public and environmental health in the country in addition to being part of a number of research projects as principle or co-investigator with a total of 10 million Rupees won as research grants.
  • Published eight (8) research papers and has contributed in one monograph in the field of HMIS and public health in addition to various papers as invited speaker in national and international forums.
