Workshop: Identifying priority implementation research questions to improve immunization programmes in Pakistan

A 3-day workshop is being conducted in Islamabad from 1-3 February, 2017 in collaboration with Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (AHPSR) WHO, Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination and Health Services Academy. The aim is to stimulate the demand for implementation research among decision-makers and implementers responsible for immunization and vaccination programmes in Pakistan. The specific objectives of the workshop are to identify current gaps and challenges in the implementation of immunization and vaccination programmes in Pakistan and review existing knowledge on these issues; orient and sensitize decision-makers, implementers, and programme managers on implementation research and its use as an embedded part of the programme implementation process; and formulate and prioritize implementation research questions based on the barriers and challenges identified. The workshop is being facilitated by the staff of the AHPSR and UNICEF, with support from local facilitators from HSA and other local universities. Public health professionals and implementers of the immunization program will attend the workshop. This workshop will result in an increased awareness, appreciation and interest among decision-makers and implementers to participate in implementation research activities and to respond to future calls for implementation research by the AHPSR, UNICEF and other funding agencies.
