6th Annual Public Health Conference 2015

The Conference, now an annual feature of the Health Services Academy showed an outstanding level of academic activity. This year’s 6th Annual Public Health Scientific Conference on the theme “Fragile Health System: Issues and Challenges in Pakistan – Harnessing Opportunities” was conducted at HSA on 11th and 12th December, 2015 in partnership with UNICEF, World Health Organization, UNFPA, Ipas and EVA-BHN. The Honorable Federal Minister of State Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar, Secretary Mr. Muhammad Ayub Sheikh and Director General of Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination/Dean Health Services Academy Dr. Assad Hafeez inaugurated the event. The event was heavily attended by nearly 800 participants in the two days of the meeting from different Organizations and Institutions including Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, EPI, Pakistan Nursing Council, Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan, Federal Medical & Dental College, National Institute of Health, WHO, CDC, Quaid-e-Azam University, Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication , Dow University of Health Science, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Pakistan Medical & Research Council, Pakistan Medical &Dental College, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, World Health Organization, Paladium, World Bank, GIZ, United Nation Population Fund, Centers for Disease Control, UNICEF, Ipas, Department of International Development, USAID, Plan Pakistan, Pathfinder Pakistan, John Snow Inc, Aga Khan University, Dow University Karachi, Alshifa Eye Trust, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute, Army Medical College, Greenstar, Heartfile, GIZ. The technical program consisted of two plenary sessions with three eminent and distinguished speakers each day. Around 78 oral presentations in four parallel scientific sessions on the first day and eight parallel sessions on the second day. A total of 100 posters were exhibited, 50 on each day of the event. There were stalls of various distinguished organizations like Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication (which is already offering a course offered in John Hopkins University on Applied Health Communication as an elective course at HSA), GE (General Electrics), Basic Needs, White Ribbon Alliance, Pink Ribbon Alliance, Tobacco Control, Public Health Department, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and captured the interest of the audience. The feedback of the attendees was exceptional due to the high scientific level of the scientific presentations, the venue and the hospitality. There was a discernible interest of the participants for more of such events and the upcoming 7th Annual Public Health Conference 2016.
